Cut a Diagonal Brace

Upper Left End

1. Measure Depth '' L '' and Height '' H '' of inside of enclosure as shown in figure 1.
2. Guess at butt length '' b '' ~ 3/4 times the width of brace.
3. Mark points P1 and P2 at distance '' b '' from inside cabinet corners as shown in figure 1.
4. Measure length '' M '' between P1 and P2 as shown in figure 1.
5. Calculate length '' V '' as follows: V = b * (L - b) / M
6. Calculate length '' D '' as follows: D = b * (H - b) / M
7. Mark point P1 on brace at '' V '' inches from edge as shown in figure 2.
8. Mark point P3 on brace at '' D '' inches from edge as shown in figure 2.
9. Cut line between P1 and P3 on brace as shown in figure 2.
10. Scribe a line perpendicular to butt edge as shown in figure 2.
11. Cut along line scribed in step 10.

Lower Right End

12. On brace, mark point P2 at length '' M '' inches from P1 as shown in figure 2.
13. On brace, mark point P4 at length '' M + D '' inches from P1 on as shown in figure 2.
14. Scribe a line perpendicular to long edge of brace at P4 as shown in figure 2.
15. Mark point P5 at '' V '' inches from edge as shown in figure 2.
16. Cut line between P2 and P5 as shown in figure 2.
17. Scribe a line perpendicular to butt edge (cut in the previous step) as shown from P5 to P6.
18. Cut line between P5 and P6 as shown in figure 2.
